Hello folks! Can you believe it's July?! Half of 2010 is already gone. I've had a good first half, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year brings! If you've been following along this week at 365 Cards, Pam's on a color kick! Each day has featured a different color and the challenge is to use 3 different shades of that color. Today's color is YELLOW!
I do like yellow, but I think that's a hard color for this challenge! You can have different shades of yellow, but they all kind of look similar (at least the shades I have in my stash!). Trust me, there are probably 4-5 different shades on here, but it's hard to pick that up with my camera...
That cute hula girl is from our sponsor this week - Digi Kitty. Even though the yellow was challenging, I'm glad I got that color for my day! All that sunshine-y yellow combined with Ms. Hula makes for one fun, summery card and what's better than that for July 1?!
So, here are the dets on the card itself. I printed Ms. Hula on my cardstock and colored her in with Copics. To add a little highlight to her hair (and because I'm not so great at shading black hair), I threw in a few white highlights. I printed the skirt part of the image again on some polka dot paper, which I then trimmed out and highlighted with a similar colored Copic. I added a nice, summery sentiment at the bottom and layered the whole thing on some Hawaiian Shores cardstock (even the name of the color goes with the theme of this card!). For the yellow layer, I zipped the cardstock through my Big Shot with a Stampin' Up! impression plate. Then I inked up my brayer with a darker shade of yellow and lightly rolled over the impressions to get a tone-on-tone effect. For the last touch, I cut out some flowers using PTI's fabulous felt and flower dies. I topped those with some yellow buttons.
Speaking of summer, I'm embarking this month on a photo project. I signed up for Big Picture Scrapbooking's "Picture Summer" class. Each day in July, they send a email with a photo prompt so you capture something from each day of this month that says "summer". I think I'm going to transition each of these pictures into a mini book! Ever since PTI introduced their mini scrapbook dies, I've been itching to do a mini book. I actually have quite a few ideas, so that's going to be my new obsession! Today's prompt is to take a picture of something that makes you think of summer. I've been brainstorming this morning coming up with a list of what makes me thing of summer and this is what I have so far:
sunshine
Now, I just have to figure out what I want to take a picture of! I'll be on the lookout today...
This weekend, I'm headed up to Burlington, VT for a weekend of hiking and fun! We going to climb the 2nd highest mountain in Vermont, then take in some fireworks by Lake Champlain. Sunday, we're heading to nearby Stowe to take a gondola up the tallest mountain in Vermont, then ride a 2300 foot slide back down!
Hope you have a safe & happy 4th of July weekend! And...enjoy your first day of the 2nd half of the year!
