Is it Thursday already!? Thank goodness! I'm definitely ready for the weekend. One thing I like to try to do on weekends is read! I always have a book (or two) that I'm in the middle of reading, so today's 365 Cards challenge was right up my alley. For today's challenge, I needed to select a book cover to use as my inspiration for the card. I chose the book that I'm currently reading (although I finished it last night!):
This was a great book! It's actually based on the author's summer of 1945 when she and a friend became the first women to work on the floor at Tiffany in New York City. What a great experience she had and she's done a wonderful job retelling it in a way that doesn't feel non-fiction.
I loved the cover, so I came up with this card as the influence of the cover's design:
The dress image is from Lauretta's Digital Stamps, which is our sponsor this week. I barely colored it with Copics in the palest of blues and several grays. I wanted that washed out, almost black & white look from the book cover. I paired that with Tiffany blue cardstock and a swiss dot embossed white layer. I added a few pearls to the waistline of the dress to make it a little more "Tiffany". I was going to add a white satin bow, just like on the book cover and what comes on Tiffany gift boxes, but I thought it would look better if placed on the blue cardstock, so having predominately white layers didn't really yield a good place to put the white bow. So...I left it off!
I look forward to starting a new book this weekend! I hope I have time! We're going to a pig roast on Saturday afternoon/evening, so I have to prepare a side dish on Saturday morning to take for sharing. I hear there are going to be about 200 people going to this so it should be interesting. Everyone has to bring a dish - some are assigned sides and others desserts, so I don't have to make enough of the side for all 200 people!! Personally, I wish we'd been assigned the dessert. I do much better making desserts than sides! I just don't do sides! But, I've decided to try my hand at this yummy dish. One of the reviews suggested adding black olives and bow tie pasta, so I'm going to add that into mine to make it a bit more substantial. Wish me luck!
Have a great weekend & thanks for stopping by!

Just the name Tiffany makes me think of simplicity and elegance, and I think you captured it perfectly on this card. Well, the colors too !
How funny we both have read the same book recently, when that book is just ancient. (Isn't it? It seems to me I looked at the pub date and it was 60 years ago...) Anyway, the library copy was pretty beat up, so maybe I just thought it was old !!
Great choice in reading, nonetheless !!!!
